Perspective

One of the greatest warriors in history was Alexander the Great. In his lifetime he conquered most of the known world – but died mysteriously at the age of 32. Legend says that before Alexander died he asked for three things:

1. Let my doctors carry my casket

2. Take the gold and jewels from my treasury, and scatter them before my funeral procession.

3. Bury me with both of my hands outside of my casket.

His general assured him that they would do as he asked, but asked why he wanted these things done. Alexander replied:

1. I want people to know that no doctor can cure death.

2. I want them to know that I chased wealth my whole life, but I can’t take it with me.

3. I want all to know I came empty handed into this world, and leave the same way.

Alexander had good points if you are looking at this world through human nature and eyes of the flesh.

However, when you accept Christ your nature and the way you look at this world is suppose to change.

1. No doctor can cure death. However, All throughout the Bible we read about great heroes who did not fear death. Some could not wait to finish there race here so they could spend eternity with Christ. They understood that life on earth is temporary, and great things await.

2. You can not take wealth with you. “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:19-21

3. Empty handed. We may be empty handed physically but not spiritually. You won’t be thinking about your car, house, jewelry, clothes, money when you are looking Christ face to face. We have the promise of everlasting life. We gain a life with no sorrow, no pain, no emotional battles, and to top it off we get to meet Christ!
